Sam Garratt
Born in Barwell, Leicestershire, Sam Garratt worked originally as a boot-maker, studying by night at the Leicester School of Art. In 1906 he moved to Brecon in Wales, from where he regularly sent works to Dublin. Over the period 1908-1917 he showed nearly forty works at the RHA, including forest and hunting scenes such as A Winter’s Eve, Charnwood Forest (1908),Autumn Evening, The Beech Groves, Brecon (1914) and The Brecon Hunt (1912).
