Koert Delmonte
Born in the Netherlands, Delmonte studied at the Académie des Beaux Arts in Brussels. He had his first one-man show in Amsterdam, remaining there throughout the Second World War, when he was involved making false passports as part of the Resistance movement. After the war he settled in London, exhibiting at the RA and the Redfern Gallery. In 1951 he paid his first visit to Dublin, staying and exhibiting at the United Arts Club. www.whytes.ie He settled in Dublin two years later. Solo shows were held at the Brown Thomas Little Theatre (1956), Ritchie Hendriks Gallery (1961), the Molesworth Gallery and the Lad Lane Gallery (1979). A portrait of Charles Brady was included in the latter. He also exhibited with the RHA and at the 1975 Dutch Exhibition of artists living in Ireland, organised by the Bank of Ireland. His graphic work was reproduced as postcards and Christmas cards, whilst a series of his Dublin drawings were reproduced in the Irish Times. (See Snoddy, pages 134-5). www.whytes.ie
