Derrick Greaves
Born in Sheffield, England, Derrick Greaves studied at the RCA 1948-1952 and at the British School in Rome 1952-1954. It was at the latter that Greaves met Derek Hill who was then working as the school’s Art Director. Hill described himself during that period as “a sort of nanny to young British painters who were out there on grants and scholarships. I’d take them on trips, up to Veneto or down south or round the collections in Rome ... [and] gave them lots of parties" (quoted in Grey Gowrie, Derek Hill: An Appreciation, London, Quartet, 1987, p.98). Greaves style has changed from social realist to Pop-art like imagery over time. He has exhibited widely and is represented by the James Hyman gallery. www.whytes.ie
